The Protibondhi Community Centre (PCC) was established in 1997 in the city of Mymensingh (about 125 km North to the capital Dhaka) by a group of people with and without disabilities. The PCC has since developped into a unique organization in the Mymensingh district. The PCC works with about 10000 (ten thousand) people with disabilities and their families at the community level.
The PCC estimates the total number of people with disabilities would be approximately 5 to 6 % of the population of Mymensingh district. These people are looked down upon in the society. Even in their own families they are often neglected and oppressed in many ways. They need financial support, education and training to be self supportive, as well as consolation, love and some chance of sharing experiences in order to find ways and means to earn their living by themselves.
